Tripoli Patterson

Born at home in Sag Harbor, on September 5, 1984, Trip Patterson began traveling at an early age.  He attended kindergarten in Bavaria, Germany and started rollerblading, horseback riding, and skateboarding when he was six years old. After just a few months of riding, he was entered in the Hamptons Classic Horse Show representing the stable he rode at.

At eight years old Trip started surfing.  He won 2nd place in Menehunes at the East Coast Championships when he was 10 years old and continued competing for the New York State surf team for many years, maintaining his first place NYS title in Menehunes, Boys, and Jr. Men.

Trip moved to Bali, Indonesia, with his family, at age 13. He had the opportunity to go to G-Land, where he surfed big waves with older, hard core surfers and made many friends.  They stayed for two years, returned to the Hamptons for two years, then moved to New Zealand for two more. In between, Trip spent time in Santa Cruz, California and the North Shore of Oahu, where he has often spent time surfing since.

Since 2005, Trip has augmented his love of surfing with his love of fine art by organizing, producing, and curating art shows for the public. He has shows the work of both established and emerging artist.

In 2009, Trip opened the Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art on Job’s Lane in Southampton, New York.  He has continued to curate exhibitions there, as well as being called upon to curate private shows in New York City and, most recently, a benefit and silent auction for Planned Parenthood at the Bridgehampton Surf Club, which event raised over $200,000.

Sociable, kindhearted, brave, strong and athletic, Trip is a friend to all and is loved by all who know him.
