Michael Halsband graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 1980, and soon after began a career as a professional photographer, working for such publications as Interview, Avenue, and Rolling Stone. In 1985, his work shifted toward portraits and fashion photography, and it was during this time that Halsband shot his iconic portrait of Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat with boxing gloves. Other major photography projects include working for the School of American Ballet, as well as commissions for photographs and videos from noteworthy icons in the film and music industries. His work has been exhibited extensively at a multitude of galleries, including the Eric Firestone Gallery and Glenn Horowitz Bookseller in East Hampton, NY; the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA; Gagosian Gallery in London; and ARKEN Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen.
