Ryan Estep earned a Masters of Fine Arts from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. His work has been exhibited internationally, with recent solo exhibitions in London, Paris, and Dublin. He has been included in group exhibitions at Blum & Poe, Los Angeles and New York; 3rd Ward, Brooklyn; Museo di Capodimonte, Naples, and Fondazione 107, Turin, Italy. Addressing questions of labor, process, and touch, he uses a number of unconventional materials within his paintings and often creates a set of rules for each series. Drawing from a systematic set of rules and premeditated actions, Ryan starts with a neo-minimalist format and adds gestural marks; the result of his experimentation with unconventional materials such as lidocaine, sterilized dirt, and sand. He currently lives and works in New York.
